FGD & Ash Handling (Power Generation)

Flue-gas desulfurization absorber recirculation and ash sluice duty — high-volume, moderate-pressure slurry transfer inside a coal- or gas-fired power plant, not a mining application.

Sector 02 · S Series

Coal Preparation & Heavy Media (Coal Processing)

Coal washing circuits plus dense-medium (magnetite/ferrosilicon) separation loops, where the medium itself is abrasive and continuously recirculated — a distinct selection problem from raw coal transport.

P Series Caution

The P Series Is Not a Heavy-Slurry Pump

Schurco's P Series (4"–6" discharge, 420 ft head, 2,250 gpm, 240 psig) shares the same catalog family as the six series above, but its wear-resistant alloy wet end is built for light slurries at specific gravity around 1.05 — closer to water than to FGD absorber slurry, coal-wash medium, or granulated slag. Specifying P Series onto a heavy-media or slag-granulation duty is a real vendor-flagged mismatch, not a substitution.

Solids Isolation

Pairing: AVCO 6100 Series Knife Gate Valve

AVCO does not name FGD, ash handling, or coal prep directly, but the 6100 Series (2"–24", ANSI Class 150, 304SS/316SS/Hastelloy body and shim) is the real solids-isolation pairing for the Schurco series above: gates are polished and lapped on both sides with a machined bevel on the bottom edge specifically designed to cut through solids and seal tighter closed — the same solids-laden isolation problem these pumps are sized for.

Why does FGD/ash-handling equipment need its own sector page instead of "Mining"?

Flue-gas desulfurization and ash handling are power-generation applications, not mining — the absorber recirculation and ash sluice duty happen inside a coal- or gas-fired power plant. Schurco Slurry names FGD applications and Ash Handling directly on its L Series product page, alongside Coal Preparation, but a "Mining" bucket erases that distinction and can misroute a power-plant buyer searching for FGD-specific equipment.

What is the difference between Coal Preparation and Heavy Media duty?

Coal Preparation is raw coal washing and transport. Heavy Media is dense-medium separation — magnetite or ferrosilicon medium that is itself abrasive and continuously recirculated through the circuit, not just transported once. Schurco's S Series names both directly and offers interchangeable metallic or elastomeric liners specifically because the medium recirculation changes the wear profile.

Is slag granulation a mining application?

No — slag granulation is a steel and metals application: quenching and granulating molten slag byproduct at a steel mill. Schurco's Z Series names Slag Granulation directly alongside Salt Production and Sugar Beet Processing, none of which are mining. The Z Series' rotatable clamp-ring casing is a real install advantage in a granulation pit where discharge orientation is fixed by existing structure.

Which Schurco series should never be specified for heavy slurry?
