Install / Failure Note

Saturated salt water drops 316 stainless steel to an F (failure) rating at both 40°C and 80°C per the Flowline compatibility chart, even though ordinary sea water rates 316SS excellent — a strainer basket spec'd off a generic 'sea water' compatibility check can fail once salinity concentrates toward saturation, e.g. in a scrubber blowdown or brine loop.

316 stainless is the default answer for a seawater strainer basket, and it's the wrong one once concentration climbs toward saturation, where the Flowline data shows 316SS actually failing while ordinary seawater still rates it excellent.
