The D20/D25/D26's conical air-gap body physically separates the leach solution from the sealing mechanism specifically to prevent scale/mineral deposits from fouling the seal — a direct engineering answer to closed-loop leach-solution scaling that a standard float-seal air valve doesn't address.
Heap-leach solution recirculates in a closed loop and concentrates dissolved solids over time — an air valve with a direct float seal will scale shut on that same loop, which is exactly the failure mode Netafim's air-gap body was built to avoid.
