What LibertyCES's vendor documentation shows
Hayward's 20-chemical x 12-material table gives quantified A/B/C/X ratings per acid; PAA 40% is uniquely restrictive (only PTFE/PVDF pass).
Materials documented for this service
- PFA (Excellent)
- PVDF
- CPVC (weak on HF)
- 316SS (poor on HCl/HF)

Hayward's own 20-chemical table rates both 316SS and Hastelloy-C a flat X (not recommended) for 20% hydrochloric acid — a stainless-trim ball valve is a real failure risk on HCl service even though the same alloy handles many other acids fine.
"Acids" isn't one spec — Hayward's own resistance table rates 316SS from A (nitric acid) down to a flat X (hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acid) depending on which acid is running. Most suppliers sell what you ask for; the acid's identity, not just its presence, is what actually determines wetted material.
Every material and product claim on this page traces to real, vendor-published documentation on file with LibertyCES. Chemical compatibility depends on exact concentration, temperature, and duty cycle — confirm current specifications with the manufacturer and request a spec review before final specification.
FAQ
Is Ball Valve compatible with Acids?
Hayward's 20-chemical x 12-material table gives quantified A/B/C/X ratings per acid; PAA 40% is uniquely restrictive (only PTFE/PVDF pass). This is strong evidence.
