TBH-Z's ball is drilled with a vent hole on the upstream side specifically to keep sodium hypochlorite in the valve cavity in contact with the upstream piping fluid — a standard (non-vented) ball valve traps hypochlorite in the cavity where it off-gasses and crystallizes, a documented failure mode in municipal chlorine-feed service.
A standard ball valve dropped into a sodium hypochlorite line isn't a shutoff — it's a crystallization trap waiting to seize. Hayward built the TBH-Z's vented ball specifically to keep that cavity in contact with upstream fluid instead of stagnant hypochlorite, which is the difference between a valve that lasts and one that has to be chiseled open at year two.
