Plast-O-Matic

GGS chemical gauge guards — a stainless steel hex insert isolates pressure and vacuum instruments from corrosive process fluid, without the overtightening breakage that ruins unprotected gauges.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the maximum working pressure on a Plast-O-Matic GGS gauge guard?

250 PSI in most material/configuration combinations, with the diaphragm rupture point at approximately 400 PSI. For dangerous fluids such as acids, Plast-O-Matic recommends a minimum 4x safety factor — keeping process fluid pressure at 100 PSI or lower.

Which diaphragm material should I specify for my gauge range?

PTFE is standard for gauges 0-30 PSI and above. FKM elastomer diaphragms are used for 0-15 PSI and vacuum applications. Material selection depends on the actual gauge pressure range, not the process line pressure.

Can the GGS gauge guard be cleaned without recalibrating the gauge?

Yes, with the removable housing option (-R suffix). Loosening 6 fasteners lets the upper housing pull away while the diaphragm and fill liquid stay captured in the retaining ring — so particulate or scale gets cleaned out of the lower cavity without draining fill liquid or disturbing the gauge calibration.
