Why System Integrity Wins

Problems don’t show up in the catalog. They show up at startup: seepage on the flange, chemical odor in the room, soft tubing at temperature, and hose fatigue on routing bends. The right selection accounts for chemistry, heat, pressure cycles, bolt load, and the actual surface condition.

1) Control Creep & Relaxation

Upgrading from commodity gasket materials prevents repeat retorque and chronic seepage.

2) Seal Mixed Flange Materials

Low-stress sealing helps protect plastics while still sealing steel under real bolt loads.

3) Specify Transfer Duty Correctly

Suction/discharge service demands the correct liner, reinforcement, and routing discipline.

James Riggins’ Spec Standard

“If it can leak, it eventually will — unless the seal design accounts for bolt load, surface condition, and real chemistry. We select components as a system so you don’t discover the weak link during startup.”

Engineering Q&A

Direct Answers

Clear, practical guidance for selecting tubing, gaskets, flange joint sealant, and chemical transfer hose solutions.

What is the difference between CNAF and PTFE gaskets?

CNAF (Compressed Non-Asbestos Fiber) gaskets are a standard industrial seal but can harden and become brittle over time. PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene), specifically GORE™ ePTFE, provides superior chemical resistance (pH 0-14) and does not degrade, age, or cold flow, making it the safer choice for hazardous chemical sealing.

Is PTFE the same as Teflon?

Yes, Teflon™ is a brand name for the chemical compound PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene). However, Liberty CES supplies GORE™ Universal Pipe Gaskets, which use Expanded PTFE (ePTFE) to solve the "creep" and relaxation problems found in standard commodity PTFE sheets.

What is the best chemical hose for transferring acid?

For transferring aggressive acids (sulfuric, hydrochloric), we recommend a Cross-Linked Polyethylene (XLPE) or Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMW) chemical hose. For extreme purity and heat resistance, a PTFE-lined hose is the ultimate solution.

Can I use GORE Joint Sealant for concrete expansion joints?

No. GORE™ Joint Sealant is a specialized form-in-place gasket tape designed for sealing industrial piping flanges and equipment manways. It is not designed for concrete pavement or construction expansion joints.
